Antebellum Official Trailer

ANTEBELLUM
Release Date: August 21, 2020

Veronica Henley is a successful author with a great family. Everything seems perfect in her life until one day she discovers herself in the middle of a confusing and terrifying reality. She learns that she must solve the mystery of why she was chosen to break free and return to her normal life.

The trailer shows us Janelle Monae, playing Veronica, experiencing some kind of trippy time-traveling to when slavery existed in America. The trailer asks “What if fate chose to you to save us from our past?”, leading us to believe Veronica has been sent to the 19th Century as a slave to free her ancestors or solve a mystery surrounding them.

The Antebellum South, where this film gets its name, was a period from the late 18th Century until the start of the Civil War. During this time, Southern America experienced economic growth due to their use of slavery. This was an awful period for the black slaves that were treated inhumanely.

This movie revolves around this period in the south and will explore the horrible history of America that lies there. The trailer implies that Veronica’s ancestor was alive during this time as a slave and that Veronica is going to be seeing through her eyes.

Horror movies that have a foot in real historic events are always more chilling than ones that we know are entirely made up. While Veronica Henley and her ancestor might not exist, some of their experiences during the film have happened to people back then. Hopefully, this movie can give us insight into America’s dark past because of this.

We are excited about what this movie has in store for us. Luckily, there is little less than a month left to wait for release.
