Release Date: January 1, 2021
Since the sequel has the same director and the original writers, you can be sure the vibe of the first movie is going to carry over into this one. The release date for this movie also had to be pushed back a few times- not due to reshooting but because of the pandemic.
Escape Room 2 directly follows the events of the first movie and uses a lot of the plot points that drove the first movie forward- mainly the candidates being picked to play the game because of past traumatic events that they survived. The first movie did end on a major cliffhanger that will hopefully be covered in the sequel.
The plot of this movie is not yet available to read about, although we can guess that it will have to do with the characters Zoey and Ben finding themselves stuck in another elaborate escape room. If these two characters stick around for the entire movie or are written off for the story follow a new group of players is currently unclear. We are hoping to see another trailer closer to the far-off release date.
In the meantime, you can catch up on the first movie if you have not watched it yet. The concept of that film was interesting, although it did not seem to use a lot of the possibilities that an escape room horror would have to offer. Still, it makes for a great watch with friends.
