This film is a continuation of the book of Saw. The story follows two detectives as they try to unravel the mystery behind a series of police killings. They determine that the serial killer is enacting their twisted form of justice on cops and soon one of the detectives finds themself trapped in the killer’s game.
The main characters are Detective Zeke banks (Chris Rock) and his naive partner (Max Minghella). The pair is working under a character played by Samuel L. Jackson, who we get to hear say his signature phrase in the trailer. The preview ends with Zeke holding a saw and looking at his arm, which is handcuffed to a pipe.
When seeing this final scene in the trailer, our first reaction was “We’re doing this again?”. If you saw the first Saw movie, you might remember the iconic scene where Carry Elwes’s character was forced to cut off his foot. The scene in the new trailer seems to be a nod back to that moment.
But, we are hoping that this new film will add something new to this trope that has been done before in a Saw movie- a lot of people lose a lot of limbs in this series. We expect it to happen, but just want to see it in new and different ways.
However, the overall plot of this film has caught our attention. We find ourselves curious about why specifically police are being targeted by the villain and are interested in finding more information out about this movie. Sadly, the movie is not releasing until the spring of next year, so it is going to be a while before we can learn more or see another trailer.
If you liked Saw II, then you will probably enjoy this movie, as they are going to have the same director. Some of the writers from other films in this series will be returning as well, meaning that you can expect a thrilling story from start to finish.
