The Green Knight Official Trailer

The Green Knight
Release Date: TBC 2020

While an earlier trailer states that his horrific retelling of the King Arthur stories is set to release in May, the production studio pulled the movie from the release schedule due to the pandemic. At the moment, we are unsure of when the movie will be released, although we are hoping to still be able to see it this year.

If you enjoyed Midsommar, you will be excited to know that this movie is coming from the same studio, meaning that you can also expect a lot of horror and an interesting story to go with it. Speaking of the plot, it is going to follow the narrative of King Arthur’s nephew as he goes on a quest to defeat the infamous Green Knight.

“Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” is one of the more popular 14th-century Arthurian stories. It tells how Sir Gawain, one of King Arthur’s knights, accepts participating in the ax game with the Green Knight.

This involves striking his opponent with the ax, as long as he agrees to receive the same blow in a year. In the story, Gawain cuts off the Green Knight’s head, who then miraculously walks over, picks it up, and leaves. One year later, Gawain needs to solve this problem before he is beheaded- and dies, because he is not an immortal being like the Green Knight.

The trailer for the movie shows us a lot of the elements and symbolism from the original story. The Medival times are often glorified, although they were dark and twisted. Seeing a horror movie reflect that period is going to be a refreshing take for many horror fans. If you enjoyed the Arthurian tales in school, you might like this gruesome reimagining of the fable just as much. You can expect it later this year.
