Who are the Misfits?

The Misfits are a punk rock band often credited as innovators of horror punk, combining the sounds of punk with horror movie aesthetic and imagery. Founded in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey, by singer/songwriter Glenn Danzig, along with Manny Martínez on drums. Soon after, the group added bassist Jerry Only. Danzig and Only were the only constant members throughout the next 6 years, during which they launched numerous records with Only's sibling, Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein on guitars. The album Earth A.D./ Wolfs Blood and the record Walk Among Us were highlights of early-1980s hardcore punk. The band has undergone many changes since then, with Jerry Only being the sole consistency in the group. The Misfits dissolved in 1983. After a series of lawsuits with Danzig, Only and Doyle regained the legal rights to play as the Misfits. They formed a new version with Michale Graves on vocals in 1995 and Dr. Chud on drums. This resurrection of the Misfits released American Psycho and Famous Monsters before calling it quits in 2000. Jerry Only then took over lead vocals and was joined by Black Flag’s Dez Cadena on guitar and  Ramones drummer Marky Ramone for a Misfits 25th anniversary reunion. For the first time in over thirty years, Danzig, Only, and Doyle rejoined in Sept. 2016 for two shows as the Original Misfits at Riot Fest. The Original Misfits lineup has continued playing as recently as 2019.
